How to Prepare for Your Electrolysis Appointment

Preparing your skin and hair properly before your electrolysis appointment can make your treatment more comfortable and help your practitioner work as effectively as possible.

  • Stop using active skincare products including retinol/tretinoin on the treatment area 2 weeks before your appointment.

  • Avoid chemical peels, micro-needling, botox, dermal fillers on the treatment area for 2 weeks before electrolysis.

  • Allow the hair to grow long enough for your practitioner to see and grasp with tweezers.

  • Ideally, remove makeup before your appointment.

  • If using numbing cream, follow the instructions on the packaging.

  • If you are prone to significant swelling, taking an antihistamine 1-2 hours before your appointment may help.

  • Avoid arriving with sunburned, irritated or damaged skin.
